Data security

Discover how data is transmitted between la Vitre devices and with the Companion.

Data security

You share files with complete confidence using la Vitre. Sharing is done directly, between your devices, with systematic encryption. No files are stored server-side, even temporarily.

Security of file sharing via la Vitre

When a file is shared between two la Vitre devices, it transits via a secure WebRTC connection, directly from one device to another. No files are stored on a server, even temporarily.

End-to-end encrypted connection

la Vitre uses the WebRTC protocol to establish a direct connection between the two devices. This connection is automatically encrypted end-to-end via DTLS (Datagram Transport Layer Security). This guarantees the confidentiality and integrity of transmitted data. Once the connection is established, no one, including the service provider, can access the exchanged content.

Secure signaling

The connection establishment goes through a signaling phase (exchange of technical information), which is performed via an HTTPS channel. This channel is encrypted and authenticated, ensuring that only the two authorized parties can participate in the exchange.

File integrity

Sent files are transmitted as successive blocks. The WebRTC protocol integrates control mechanisms that guarantee that data is neither lost, modified, nor reordered during transmission. If any alteration is detected, the transfer is automatically rejected.

No intermediate storage

Files transit exclusively peer-to-peer, without passing through an intermediate server, which significantly reduces the exposure surface and eliminates risks related to storage or interception.

The Companion application: same level of security

An application, the Companion, also allows a user to send a file to their own Vitre (for example from a phone). This transfer relies exactly on the same WebRTC protocol, with an end-to-end encrypted connection. Once the file is received on la Vitre, it transmits it to the remote Vitre, using the same logic.

Thus, whether the file comes from another la Vitre or from a personal device via the Companion application, security, confidentiality and integrity are fully ensured at each step.

In summary

File sharing via la Vitre is secured at several levels:

  • End-to-end encryption of exchanged data
  • Signaling protected via HTTPS
  • Integrity control integrated into the WebRTC protocol
  • No server-side storage
  • Companion application benefiting from the same security guarantees

These elements ensure the confidentiality, integrity and non-interception of files, whether between two la Vitre devices or between a user device and la Vitre.
